Our Mission & Vision

Through legal representation, education, media relations, and advocacy, we empower the American Muslim community and encourage participation in political and social activism. We counsel, mediate, and advocate on behalf of Muslims and others who have experienced discrimination, harassment, or hate crimes. Our lawyers work to protect and defend the constitutional rights of Muslims and immigrants through our pro bono legal services.

Mission

CAIR-Ohio’s mission is to enhance the understanding of Islam, protect civil liberties, promote justice, and empower American Muslims.

Vision

CAIR-Ohio’s vision is to be a leading advocate for justice and mutual understanding.

Combating Islamophobia

Islamophobia has become a cornerstone of oppressive ideologies in the US and worldwide. Anti-Muslim sentiment can be found in workplaces, schools, and the halls of power.

For American Muslims, experiences of Islamophobic discrimination are also often experiences laden with racism, xenophobia, anti-blackness, and/or classism. CAIR-Ohio works tirelessly to defend Ohio Muslims from the effects of Islamophobia and discrimination.

Muslims deserve the full scope of their liberties, rights and the dignity of equal rights. We defend these rights through advocacy, civic engagement, and litigation.

What We Do

Civil Rights & Legal Services

Our legal team is committed to ensuring equal protection of the law for Muslims and other marginalized communities in Ohio. We represent Muslims facing religious discrimination and also provide consultation to community members navigating a variety of legal issues.

Outreach & Education

CAIR-Ohio engages with the community on several levels to provide the education and tools necessary for collective and self-empowerment.

  • Muslim student empowerment and professional development
  • Distribution of resources about Islam/Muslims to institutional settings such as employers, educators, and healthcare providers
  • Muslim institution empowerment through organizational training and assistance
  • Feeding Families

Advocacy

CAIR-Ohio empowers Muslims to make their voices and concerns heard in the federal and state halls of power through non-partisan legislative advocacy to amplify the concerns of Ohio Muslims, educating policymakers and the broader public.

We assist in organizing and mobilizing the collective action of the Muslim community around issues and community campaigns. Additionally, we provide activists and community leaders with the tools and training to navigate their advocacy work

Civic Engagement

CAIR-Ohio seeks to maximize and facilitate Muslim civic engagement in our democracy. We believe to create systemic change, Muslims and other marginalized groups must have the tools to productively engage with our political system, at the ballot box and beyond. Through non-partisan voter education and mobilization, we work to preserve and expand voting rights, building an equal path for all Americans.
