(COLUMBUS, OH, 1/06/22) – On Friday, December 31, the Ohio Chapter of the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR-Ohio) co-hosted a solidarity march with several Muslim and interfaith groups following the heinous murder of Imam Mohamed Hassan Adam. The march and vigil were to show support for the immense loss in the Muslim community and to call for justice and accountability.
Several hundred community members gathered at the First Congregational Church where the march began and concluded at Columbus City Hall where CAIR-Ohio Acting Executive Director Amina Barhumi, Imam Horsed Noah, and other community leaders commemorated Imam Mohamed’s life and called for justice and accountability following his death. CAIR-Ohio co-hosted the march with Somali Islamic Centers of Ohio, Faith in Public Life, the Somali Community Association of Ohio, Noor Islamic Cultural Center, and the Islamic Association of North America who addressed attendees of the march.
Imam Mohamed reportedly went missing Wednesday, Dec. 22. His body was found by community members in Columbus on Dec. 24.
In a statement released on Dec. 24, Barhumi said:
“Inna lillahi wa inna ilaihi raajioon - To God we belong and to Him we return. Tonight, we are shocked and devastated by the murder of Sheikh Dr. Mohamed Hassan Adam of Masjid Abu Hurairah – a beloved pillar of the Columbus Somali Muslim community. Our entire Ohio Muslim community has suffered a profound and tragic loss. We call on law enforcement to conduct a thorough and transparent investigation into the murder of this community leader, husband, and father.
“We send our deepest condolences to his family and are reaching out to offer our support. CAIR-Ohio will be demanding answers and justice, and keeping our community informed of any updates.”
Help continue the legacy of Imam Mohamed Hassan Adam by supporting this Sadaqah Jaariya and keeping him and his family in your du’a. All donations raised on this campaign will go directly to his family who will use the funds to support local shelters and orphans that Imam Mohamed looked after.
CAIR-Ohio and CAIR National are offering a $10,000 reward for information leading to the arrest and conviction of anyone involved in the death of Imam Mohamed Hassan Adam. More details can be found here.
