(COLUMBUS, OHIO 1/13/2021) In December 2021, CAIR-Ohio’s Feeding Families Project volunteers distributed holiday gift cards to the residents at the YWCA Family Shelter. The Feeding Families Project volunteers have been providing meals at the shelter on the second Friday of each month since the shelter opened in 2005.
For the past few years, CAIR-Ohio volunteers have also sought donations for gift cards around the holidays to bring hope and kindness to the families at the shelter.
“As Muslims, our faith calls on us to care for and be of service to our neighbors and those in need. Through the Feeding Families Project, this ongoing work is one that exemplifies this important foundation of our faith,” said CAIR-Ohio Acting Executive Director Amina Barhumi.
CAIR-Ohio initially started the Feeding Families Project in 2003 in conjunction with the Interfaith Hospitality Network and as part of the nationwide “Muslims-CAIR” initiative to encourage Muslims to get more involved in community service projects in their local communities.
Monthly food service was provided at various locations throughout the city until the YWCA Family Center opened in 2005. Volunteers were so dedicated to the project that it has continued through the years.
“This humble project began in 2003 when food was provided in parking lots. This work continues into its 18th year, thanks to the consistent dedication of volunteers and donors over the years,” said Barhumi.
