(COLUMBUS, OHIO 07/22/2021) – On Friday, July 16, the Ohio chapter of the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR-Ohio) congratulates the first 12-person Summer Internship Development Program cohort on their completion of the six-week long career-oriented intensive.

CAIR-Ohio interns worked across departments on policy research, advocacy, redistricting, and educator resources projects. Additionally, interns received over 10 trainings including accommodations, know your rights, legislative advocacy, redistricting, media, how to run a political campaign, critical race theory and more. A portion of the program included participation in legislative meetings, conducting mock press conferences, and executing their designed events.

“As a civil rights and advocacy organization we believe that the best way to secure an equitable and inclusive America is to empower young people and provide them with the space to immerse themselves in our work,” said Amina Barhumi, Outreach Director at CAIR-Ohio. “We look forward to keeping in touch with our interns for years to come.”

Internship opportunities are available throughout the year for students to apply — full-time or part-time, undergraduate, or graduate, all majors, and even high school students. Interns can earn academic credit or community service hours, or simply enrich their experience and insight within advocacy and civil rights efforts.

Our Fall Semester application window will open soon. Contact Amina Barhumi at abarhumi@cair.com or call 614-763-6557 for questions or interest.
