(CENTERVILLE, OHIO 10/21/2021) — On Saturday, Oct. 16, 2021, the Ohio Chapter of the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR-Ohio) was thrilled to help commemorate the opening of a new recreation center at the Islamic Center of Centerville. The new recreation center and packed open house event was a signifier of a growing Muslim community in Centerville, and CAIR-Ohio was present to provide free legal help and information to empower community members.
Members of the CAIR-Ohio legal and outreach teams, including CAIR-Ohio Executive Director Romin Iqbal, also provided helpful resources such as “Know Your Rights” literature that gives Muslims valuable information regarding their rights when interacting with police, TSA, and immigration services. CAIR-Ohio also shared its 2021 Voter Guide and information on the incoming local Ohio elections, encouraging all Ohio citizens to practice their right to vote.
As a civil rights and community organization, CAIR-Ohio’s primary focus is to empower our Muslim communities, protect civil rights, and promote justice. Our team has four attorneys on staff who provide free legal representation for victims of various forms of discrimination. CAIR-Ohio undertakes cases related to school and employment discrimination, FBI questioning representation, public accommodation, racial profiling, immigration applications and seeking protection for refugees, immigration delay litigation, and religious accommodation for prisoners.
