Mariam Elgafy, a graduate student at the University of Cincinnati and the force behind Dayton Muslims for Humanity (DMH), launched the DMH mask initiative, in collaboration with the Islamic Society of Greater Dayton. After realizing the lack of available face masks in her community, Mariam and a group of volunteers work to assemble and distribute face masks to essential workers and those in need. The mask production team includes about 15 local seamstresses and tailors. The cloth face masks are properly assembled in accordance with CDC guidelines and are assessed by medical professionals before shipment.
Once the cloth face masks are ready for distribution, Mariam and high school students deliver the items via no-contact doorstep delivery. Nearly 1,200 masks have been delivered to local families, city hall and local officials, postal service workers, hospice care facilities, and others.
This operation works solely on donations. Mariam and her team welcome your support.
The CAIR-Ohio team applauds Mariam for her efforts during these unnerving times. Many thanks to this #OhioMuslimHero!
