Meet Sister Jackie Othman, the case coordinator at the Islamic Center of Greater Cincinnati (ICGC). She has been coordinating the weekly food pantry for her community for the last two years through ICGC’s Social Services. This includes handling logistics, picking up available food items from grocers, and repackaging the items for the pantry’s clients.
Since the COVID-19 pandemic, the ICGC pantry clientele has doubled! To meet the growing demands, Sister Jackie arranges with local businesses to collect food items. Then, she and her team work ahead of time to organize the food items into bags for the families. Realizing that the pantry’s clientele will not be able to casually shop around as they did pre-COVID pandemic, she transformed the pantry into a drive-thru service. This helps to ensure that the food items are still available and the safety of the attendees is not compromised!
