(COLUMBUS, OH, 2/23/22) – On Saturday, February 18, CAIR-Ohio hosted an anti-bullying workshop at Abubakar Assidiq Islamic Center, located on Columbus’ west side, to support parents and students impacted by bullying and other forms of harassment at school as well as equip them with self-advocacy tools. The event is one of many aimed to help community members experiencing bullying and anti-Muslim discrimination and to provide education around its impacts on mental health.
“As part of our mission, we find so much value being in spaces where important conversations are had and where we can help in empowering youth to combat islamophobia and discrimination in the most effective way,” said CAIR-Ohio Executive Director Amina Barhumi.
Over 50 community members attended the event, including parents, youth, and community members. In addition to gaining self-advocacy knowledge during the workshop, attendees received free COVID-19 personal protective equipment (PPE) and a variety of health resources ranging from community health clinic guides to “Reduce Screen-Time” information sheets for parents. These vital resources and PPE were generously provided by Columbus Public Health.
