CAIR-Ohio Celebrates 25 Years of Service at Annual Cincinnati & Dayton Banquet

(MASON, OHIO 10/20/2022) — On Sunday, October 16, 2022, the Ohio Chapter of the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR-Ohio) held its 25th Annual Cincinnati & Dayton Banquet at Manor House in Mason, Ohio. The CAIR-Ohio annual banquet is an opportunity for staff to address hundreds of attendees including supporters, business leaders, elected officials, and representatives of mosques and community organizations to update them on the work CAIR-Ohio has accomplished in the past year. The theme this year was “Protecting Our Faith & Democracy.”

Over 400 community members attended Sunday’s banquet with keynote speaker Dalia Mogahed, author and Director of Research at the Institute for Social Policy & Understanding. Dr. Altaf, Vice President of Yaqeen Institute for Islamic Research and Howard University professor was the motivational speaker, and the event was emceed by local community leader, Alauddin Alauddin. 

The evening highlighted individuals who have made significant contributions through their community service with a “Community Empowerment Award.” The “Hero Award” was also presented to a group of students and is meant to recognize individuals who transformed a personal challenge into meaningful change for all Ohioans. Elected officials including U.S. Senator Sherrod Brown, Mayor Aftab Pureval of Cincinnati, Ohio Senator Cecil Thomas of District 9, Ohio Representative Brigid Kelly of District 31, Hamilton County Board of Commissioners, Montgomery County Board of Commissioners, Warren County Board of Commissioners, and the Mason-Deerfield Chamber submitted proclamations in recognition of CAIR-Ohio’s work. Vice Mayor Jan-Michele Lemon Kearney was there to present a proclamation on behalf of the City of Cincinnati and Senator Thomas presented his senatorial citation.
