(COLUMBUS, OHIO 10/20/2022) — Over the past several months, CAIR-Ohio has been holding Get-Out-the-Vote efforts weekly at various mosques in Central and Southwest Ohio to ensure that the Muslim community is registered to vote ahead of the primaries and general midterm election registration deadline.
CAIR-Ohio provided resources and information on “Know Your Rights” education and religious accommodations for employment, education, and healthcare in addition to registering voters. CAIR-Ohio staff and interns recently tabled during Jummah (congregational) prayer(s) at the following locations:
- Islamic Center of Centerville (ICC)
- Muslim American Society – Columbus (MAS Columbus)
- Masjid Ibn Taymiyah (IT)
- Masjid Abu Bakar Islamic Center (AAIC)
- Dayton Mercy Society (DMS)
- Islamic Center of Greater Cincinnati (ICGC)
- Islamic Center of Mason (ICM)
- Noor Islamic Cultural Center (NICC)
Over the next few weeks, CAIR-Ohio will continue tabling at mosques to get out the vote with election protection materials to educate the community. Early voting has already begun, and the last day to vote is election day is Tuesday, November 8. Find more information on your polling location using CAIR-Ohio’s voter guide.
CAIR-Ohio empowers Ohio Muslims – who are so often ignored or vilified in our democracy – to be civically engaged. We believe to create systemic change, Muslims and other marginalized groups must make their voices heard at the ballot box and beyond. Through non-partisan voter education and mobilization, we work to preserve and expand voting rights, building an equal path for all Americans.
