(COLUMBUS, OHIO 6/8/2022) – On Monday, June 6, the Ohio Chapter of the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR-Ohio) welcomed its second cohort of its annual Summer Internship Development Program. This year, CAIR-Ohio is hosting the program at its new Cincinnati office, in addition to its Columbus office.
A total of 16 students are immersing themselves in civic engagement, civil rights, public affairs, and more while developing skills in grassroots activism and advocacy. This week’s focus area was civic engagement, which included educating students on Muslim civic engagement, preparing students to lead voter registration drives being hosted by CAIR-Ohio throughout June, and training students on legislative advocacy in advance of the students’ participation in National Muslim Advocacy Day taking place June 13-14 in Washington, D.C.
Interns are exploring careers in law, nonprofits, politics, public service, international relations, and more. During the program, they will have the opportunity to network across offices, meet with elected officials, develop professional connections, and work collaboratively on projects that will help empower the Ohio Muslim community.
