(CINCINNATI, OHIO, 10/27/22) – CAIR-Ohio, along with Palestinian Ohioans met with Ohio State Representative Jessica Miranda of District 28 recently to discuss the experiences and perspectives of Palestinian people. Staff, local community leaders, and students expressed their concern for the rise in propaganda and falsehoods being spread in Ohio to normalize the ongoing occupation of Palestinian land.
Constituents shared experiences they had living under the apartheid, as well as their struggles of being Palestinian Americans and having their identities politicized and erased frequently. Students also shared the backlash and hurdles they had to overcome in speaking out about human rights abuses of Israel, such as establishing Students for Justice in Palestine chapters at their university or organizing a protest.
“Discussing different perspectives is vital to creating the type of policy that serves all Ohioans and this conversation will surely stick with me forever,” said Miranda.
CAIR-Ohio welcomes the Representative’s sentiments and plans to continue having these difficult conversations with legislators to help ensure that the voices of marginalized communities are heard by lawmakers.
