(COLUMBUS, OH, 2/9/23) – On Saturday, February 4, CAIR-Ohio and Hilliard City School District partnered in creating an informative Lunch & Learn hosted in the CAIR-Ohio Columbus office for parents and community members to attend.
CAIR-Ohio staff members, Superintendent David Stewart, Hilliard City School Board Members, DEI Director Hilary Sloat, principals, and teachers all took part in planning an initiative to engage with parents and share opportunities to be more involved in their children’s school.
Attendees listened to a presentation from local Hilliard parent and community advocate Sumaya Hamadmad, who focused on the importance of building relationships and learning to engage with schools, as well as the importance of creating a diverse educational environment in schools.
The event consisted of several stations, which provided a platform for parents and school officials to exchange ideas and experiences. During the event, attendees were able to gain a better understanding of the challenges and opportunities for creating an inclusive environment for Muslim students.
Going forward, the aim is to harness the knowledge and understanding gained from this event to create a more inclusive and supportive environment for Muslim students in schools. A Library Books campaign has been created to add more titles that represent and celebrate the diversity of Muslims and present positive and inspiring messages about the community. Collaboration between parents, community members, and school officials will be key to creating a brighter future for all students. Together, we can make a meaningful impact in promoting diversity, understanding, and acceptance in our educational institutions.
