(COLUMBUS, OH, 2/23/22) On Friday, February 17, CAIR-Ohio, Islamic Center of Greater Cincinnati (ICGC), and Cincinnati Muslim Professionals (CMP) hosted a panel discussion on dismantling Islamophobia and the crossroads of religious freedom and intersectional identities.

CAIR-Ohio Executive Director Amina Barhumi, Rutgers University Law Professor Sahar Aziz, and Lawyer Asma T. Uddin contributed to critical conversations regarding the impact of intersectional identities and religious freedoms colliding and how politics have threatened religious liberties in the U.S.

During the panel, the speakers were able to discuss their work, the “why” behind their individual and organizational efforts, when their advocacy began, and what the Muslim community’s role looks like in breaking down Islamophobia.

“It is important for us, as Muslims, to recognize the strategic efforts policies and movements that national organizations are pursuing to ensure that Muslims are misunderstood and misrepresented,” said Barhumi.

Religious freedom is a right that every individual of every faith should have, and CAIR-Ohio will continue to combat the Islamophobic tactics to better the lives of our Muslim communities.
