CAIR-Ohio Condemns Distribution of KKK Flyers in Worthington
(COLUMBUS, OH, 8/9/2022) – The Ohio chapter of the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR-Ohio) today condemned the distribution of flyers promoting the racist Ku Klux Klan (KKK) to homes in Worthington, Ohio.
The flyers, which reportedly depicted a KKK logo and featured a website address, were discovered by several Worthington residents on their property. Worthington police have been notified about the flyers and many residents said they have cameras outside their door, but so far, no sightings of whoever was behind the flyers have been reported.

“The distribution of these hateful flyers represents a despicable attempt to intimidate,” said CAIR-Ohio Acting Executive Director Amina Barhumi. “We condemn this incident and urge law enforcement authorities to be swift and thorough in their investigation.”
She said CAIR and the American Muslim community stand in solidarity with all those challenging antisemitism, anti-Black racism, xenophobia, Islamophobia, and white supremacy.

CAIR-Ohio Joins Networking Event, Provides Education and Accommodations Resources
(COLUMBUS, OHIO 8/4/2022) – On Friday, July 29, the SALAAM Employee Resource Group at Ohio State University (OSU) organized a networking event at the Wexner Medical Center Rhodes Plaza, where the Ohio Chapter of the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR-Ohio) hosted a table. SALAAM (Support Academic Leadership, Advocacy and Access in Medicine) is an employee-led group that fosters a diverse, inclusive workplace at OSU.
Employees at the Ohio State Medical Center could get instructional materials at a table set up by CAIR-Ohio. Lina Abbaoui, Legal Director, and Maryam Abidi, Staff Attorney, were on hand to provide information and resources on “Know Your Rights” education and religious accommodations for employment, education, and healthcare.

Palestinian Solidarity: CAIR-Ohio Attorney to Join Virtual Conference, Overview Your Rights When Advocating for Palestine
(COLUMBUS, OHIO 7/21/2022) — On Sunday, July 24, a staff attorney from the Ohio chapter of the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR-Ohio) will join Students for Justice in Palestine (SJP) at The Ohio State University for the group’s inaugural virtual advocacy conference, “Palestine Abroad: What Can You Do?”
The conference will take place online starting at 1 p.m. CAIR-Ohio Staff Attorney Maryam Abidi will discuss supporting Palestine and help attendees understand their rights as supporters of Palestine. She will join a line-up of other speakers from SJP, Jewish Voice for Peace and AJ+.

CAIR-Ohio Hosts Know Your Rights Workshop at Abubakar Asiddiq Islamic Center
(COLUMBUS, OHIO 7/21/2022) — On Sunday, July 17, the Ohio Chapter of the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR-Ohio) hosted a Know Your Rights presentation at Masjid Abubakar Asiddiq Islamic Center (AAIC) in Columbus. CAIR-Ohio Legal Intern Farah Farah led the bilingual interactive workshop following Asr prayer.
Sunday’s workshop empowered members of the Muslim community to confidently exercise their constitutional rights in difficult situations with law enforcement agencies including local police, FBI, ICE and more. The workshop reviewed basic rights including religious freedom, due process, and equal protection as enumerated in the U.S. Constitution. Participants explored how those rights can be applied in different scenarios, such as traffic stops, customs and border entry, and more.
