(COLUMBUS, OHIO 5/6/2022) – During the holy month of Ramadan, the Ohio chapter of the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR-Ohio) presented at interfaith iftars to provide education about the significance of Ramadan in Islam, as well as accommodations needed for students.
CAIR-Ohio staff spoke at both the Mason High School Muslim Student Association iftar and the Miami University Muslim Student Association iftar with educators, students, and their families in attendance. Attendees learned about the religious significance of Ramadan as well as practical implications and reasonable accommodations that may be required for students to practice their faith.
During the weeks leading up to and during Ramadan, CAIR-Ohio shared Ramadan resources to empower the Ohio Muslim community to advocate for accommodations, including requesting off from school and work for Eid al-Fitr. CAIR-Ohio also notified schools and universities about the holy month and Eid holiday and shared its Educator’s Guide to Islamic Religious Practices and its Educator’s Toolkit for Ramadan with educators.
