(COLUMBUS, OHIO, 05/07/2021) – On Wednesday, May 5, the Ohio chapter of the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR-Ohio) and the Hilliard Area Chamber of Commerce hosted a ribbon-cutting ceremony to celebrate CAIR-Ohio’s new central Ohio office.
City and Chamber officials were on hand to formally welcome the team to Hilliard. CAIR-Ohio’s previous central Ohio office was located in Dublin.
“We have an expression in Hilliard that we ‘choose Hilliard’ and we’re so glad that CAIR-Ohio chose to have their headquarters here,” said Hilliard Area Chamber of Commerce CEO Libby Gierach.
Reflecting on the city’s commitments that align with CAIR-Ohio’s mission, City of Hilliard City Manager Michelle Crandall read an ordinance passed by the City Council last fall condemning racism and other forms of discrimination.
“CAIR-Ohio is fortunate to join the Hilliard community,” said CAIR-Ohio Outreach Director Amina Barhumi. “We look forward to planting roots and continuing to advocate for the rights of Ohio Muslims so that they may live out their lives free from discrimination.”
CAIR is America’s largest Muslim civil liberties and advocacy organization. CAIR-Ohio has offices in southwest, central, and northeast Ohio. CAIR-Ohio’s mission is to enhance understanding of Islam, protect civil rights, promote justice, and empower American Muslims.
