(MASON, OHIO 5/19/2022) – The Ohio Chapter of the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR-Ohio) celebrated the opening of its new Mason office with a ribbon cutting ceremony on Thursday, May 12. CAIR-Ohio staff and community leaders from local mosques were joined by the Mason-Deerfield (MADE) Chamber, Mason Mayor Barbara Spaeth, and local community members to formally welcome the organization to Mason.

The new office in Mason, a suburb of Cincinnati located in Warren County, will help CAIR-Ohio to better serve its Muslim community in the Greater Cincinnati and Greater Dayton regions. The office is near the Islamic Center of Mason, Islamic Center of Greater Cincinnati, the Dar-e-Zehra Islamic Center, and a short drive from both Clifton Mosque and Greater Dayton masajid.

Ohio Rep. Brigid Kelly of District 31 sponsored an official commendation from the Ohio House of Representatives to recognize the new office, which said in part:

“We pay tribute to CAIR-Ohio for its new office is sure to follow its parent agency and attain a remarkable record of service to the area. Indeed, this noteworthy organization has made numerous contributions to our state’s Muslim community, and its advocacy efforts exemplify its exceptional civic concern.”

“Our diverse community is growing and impacting our state in incredible ways,” said CAIR-Ohio Outreach and Government Affairs Director Whitney Siddiqi. “At the same time, unfortunately, Islamophobia and acts of hate are on the rise. We had 365 people contact us for help or to report discrimination last year. Across the nation, CAIR received the highest number of civil rights complaints ever in 2021.

“We must work together – our city leaders, state legislators, members of Congress, schools, mosques, allies, and partners – to combat hatred and empower marginalized communities to work, learn, and live without fear. And I think being here today, we are all committing to doing just that.”

CAIR is America’s largest Muslim civil liberties and advocacy organization. CAIR-Ohio has offices in southwest, central, and northeast Ohio. CAIR-Ohio’s mission is to enhance understanding of Islam, protect civil rights, promote justice, and empower American Muslims.
