(COLUMBUS, OH, 1/12/2022) CAIR-Ohio welcomes the Ohio Supreme Court’s ruling today that the drawn state House and Senate maps are unconstitutional and must be redrawn to meet voter-approved provisions of the Ohio Constitution to reduce partisan political gerrymandering. The commission has 10 days to fix violations.

Last September, The Brennan Center for Justice at NYU Law and the law firm Reed Smith filed a lawsuit against the Ohio Redistricting Commission on behalf of CAIR-Ohio, the Ohio Environmental Council (OEC), the Ohio Organizing Collaborative (OOC), and 6 individual plaintiffs.

The maps diluted the political power of Ohio Muslims with district lines which split the Ohio Muslim community in cities across Ohio, including, Cleveland, Toledo, Columbus, Cincinnati, Dayton, and other Ohio cities.
